Job Purpose

The Senior Purchasing Specialist is primarily responsible to support Construction and Fabrication operations by providing timely responses to requests related to the purchase of equipment, equipment parts, welding and cutting consumables, as well as items required for projects.

Responsibilities:
Displays a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture.
Purchases steel tools, equipment and materials to Waiward’s operations.
Purchases general consumables to support Fabrication.
Completes special job purchases as requested by the Estimating/Project management team.
Arranges for equipment and tool rentals to meet special job and company needs.
Expedites orders and advises Project Managment and operations of material delays.
Investigates and reports material pricing and supply trends.
Supports Construction operations by purchasing required material according to established procedures.
Monitors supplier performance.
Negotiates and implements national supplier agreements.
Sources and develops new supplier contacts.
Acts as a liason between suppliers and involved departments to resolve procurement related problems.
Monitors and maintains inventory levels.
Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Post Secondary Degree in related field required.
Minimum of 5-8 years experience in purchasing.
Demonstrated experience in successfully managing vendor relations.
Ability to understand and address the challenges related to purchasing.
Expert knowledge of procurement policies, procedures, tender and contract law, and trade agreements as well as various procurement strategies.
Exceptional customer service in a very versatile environment.
Ability to perform required research, evaluate findings, assess opportunities, design and implement appropriate strategies.
Detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
Excellent verbal and written communication, including interpersonal, negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
Strong customer service orientation with the ability to understand the needs of the client.
Demonstrated ability in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external customers including vendors.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).

Working Conditions

The incumbent is required to work in an office environment with moderate noise. The job may require the incumbent to walk stairs; be outside in inclement weather (slippery surfaces and cold); carrying objects, driving and being exposed to normal office routines.

Physical Requirements

The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and interact with a number of clients. The incument is also required to sit for extended periods of time.
