The Crisis Intake Worker provides information to women, children and the public. She provides support, comfort, empathy and care towards women and children living at the shelter in a trauma and culturally-informed way. She conducts intakes and discharges, responds to phone calls and safe entrance of guests and service persons at the door. She updates communication, monitors the security camera system taking appropriate action when needed, secures doors throughout the shelter on regular shelter walkarounds, helps clients organize their rooms and belongings. The CIW updates senior staff about incidents.

Skills:

· Excellent interpersonal and interviewing skills

· Strong organization and administrative skills

· Strong verbal and written communication skills (English and Inuktitut)

· Demonstrated capability in crisis interventions, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills

· Compassionate and non-judgmental

· Patience and maturity to tactfully and diplomatically interact with clients and staff

· Ability to work within a team environment

· Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information

· Ability to take initiative and work independently

Qualifications Preferred:

· Counselling and case management experience

· CPR/First Aid / Suicide Intervention training

· Previous experience in a residential setting;

· Knowledge of issues pertaining to violence against women and children who witness violence

· Flexibility and availability to fill in for shifts on short notice

· Availability to work flexible hours including evenings, midnights and weekends

· Willingness to work statutory holidays, and during seasonal, school and cultural holidays

· Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check

· Inuktitut a strong asset

Part-time hours: 16 per week

Job Types: Part-time, Casual

Salary: $25.00-$33.00 per hour
