Under the supervision of the Portfolio Manager, the Business Analyst is responsible for identifying the business needs of clients and stakeholders to determine IT solutions to business problems. The incumbent analyzes and documents current IT business processes, helping to determine process efficiencies and automation opportunities; uses Project Management methodologies to ensure projects are delivered successfully; and analyzes, develops and implements the planning and implementation of large-scale business processes and projects to respond to University Advancement’s strategic objectives. The incumbent will create specifications for solutions involving the use of computer systems, information flow and architecture; and, plan and execute unit integration and acceptance testing.

Primary Responsibilities:
Elicit, analyze, validate and document business, organizational and/or operational requirements.
Evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information from details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding and distinguish users’ requests from the underlying true needs.
Translate business requirements into a conceptual system design, including but not limited to business requirements, document high-level use cases, UI prototypes (screen mockups); work closely with clients, systems analysts, solution architects, Central IT, other business groups and vendors for the delivery of IT solutions.
Prepare and/or contribute to the communications plans between clients/stakeholders and IT from project inception to final implementation.
Understand and document business processes; recommend ways to optimize and automate them and their related activities.
Analyze and estimate requests and facilitate the effort to identify solutions, respecting time/budget constraints with a project team. Prepare and present the material required to demonstrate solutions and alternatives to the project stakeholders. Sign off the development plans with the project stakeholders.
Prepare detailed development plans, milestones, work-breakdown structures, and prioritized tasks. Prepare appropriate documentation following PMI standards. Develop contingency strategies when facing resource shortages.
Proactively support the design, construction and implementation phases by reviewing design documents and ensuring requirements are met; reviewing test strategy, test plans and test cases to ensure requirements are met; support user attestation testability and functional testing. Develop test plan and scenarios.

Minimum Education & Experience:
Undergraduate degree

Three (3) years' related experience

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities:
Demonstrated business and functional knowledge. Demonstrated experience in at least one implementation of a major system. Apply proven communication, analytical and problem solving skills to maximize the benefit of IT system investments and to assist in implementing new business process solutions. Excellent business analysis skills – ability to understand and clarify business needs formulated by requestors and stakeholders. Strong project management skills and knowledge of project management methodologies. Project Management certification and/or Business Analysis certification considered a very strong asset. Demonstrated effective communication, writing and planning skills. Self-motivated and ability to work well with multiple teams in cross-functional setup. Demonstrated ability to work on multiple initiatives simultaneously and to manage deadlines. Demonstrated ability to facilitate requirements gathering sessions with SMEs who possess varying levels of technical expertise. English spoken and written. French spoken and read. Familiarity with Oracle, SQL, JavaScript, PHP, HTML considered an asset. Five (5) to Seven (7) years' related experience preferred.
