Communications and Digital Content Specialist

The New Brunswick Health Council (NBHC) was established in 2008 by the Government of New Brunswick. The Council engages citizens in a meaningful dialogue to bring the citizen / patient experience back to health service providers and policy makers in an effective, timely and objective manner.
As such, the Council measures and monitors the NB health system performance, and it publishes its observations to both the public and the health system partners. Within its mandate, NBHC conducts surveys on a multi-year cycle, notably in health institutions and in schools throughout NB.
Detailed description - Principal tasks and responsibilities
The NBHC needs help to accomplish its mandate of informing and engaging citizens to improve New Brunswick's health system. If you love to strategize about communications to achieve organizational objectives, choose just the right word, image or video clip to share your message, and make citizens aware of what's going on in their health system, you could be the right fit for our team.
We need someone who can take data and stats, along with key observations and work with the rest of the NBHC team to capture the attention of the public, the media and health system stakeholders. Health and health services are essential, and you can share the opportunity to engage New Brunswickers in describing and advocating for the system they want.
Under the authority of the Executive Director, Citizen Engagement, the selected candidate will assume the following responsibilities:
Support the NBHC Communications strategy and activities and collaborate in their development
Support the development and creation of NBHC text and visual content, especially website and social media, as well as media advisories, news releases, news conferences and public events, while sustaining a strong relationship with provincial media
Measure and track several NBHC content indicators related to the NBHC communications strategy (web, social media, media relations, etc.)
Proofread NBHC content as part of the quality process
Engage with and reply to inquiries from stakeholders and the public, via several channels
Coordinate the production of the annual report
Maintain up to date distribution lists and ensure distribution of our materials
Represent NBHC at conferences and events
Education: Undergraduate degree in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism, business or public administration, political science, law or a related field.
Experience: A minimum of 6 years relevant experience that demonstrates the required skills and abilities listed below:
Required Skills / Abilities:
Excellent spoken and written French and English, as well as attention to detail in written communications
Excellent communications and writing skills including policy, reports, web/social media content
writing, news releases, media advisories and speeches;
Advanced time management, prioritization, and planning skills as well as the ability to arrange news conferences and public events;
Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills, especially with media;
Strong critical and strategic thinking skills, including decision-making and analytical thinking;
Strong negotiation and facilitation skills, including active listening and presentation;
Ability to successfully manage projects, meet deadlines, and work under pressure;
Ability to work in teams;
Experience scheduling and publishing web and social media content and measuring content performance results, preferably Drupal, Amplifr, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn
Strong skills in MS Office suite, especially MSWord, MSPowerPoint and MSExcel
Strong qualitative research skills
Experience creating content, managing communications activities and/or overseeing a media event using a mobile phone and/or tablet
Experience managing and updating distribution lists, as well as using them for communications activities
Experience with content and/or communications planning
Experience within the health care and/or not-for-profit sectors
Knowledge of statistics and/or surveys and the ability to explain to a popular audience
Experience with Adobe Suite products, as well as Adobe Connect and/or other online meeting tools
Experience with SurveyMonkey and MailChimp
Experience with Public Engagement activities and initiatives
