CHIEF SCIENCE OFFICER - CHEMISTRY

Job Type: Consulting Contract

Compensation: $50,000.00 to $75,000.00 /year

Job Responsibilities

  • Quantification and qualification of chemical components with the use of Raman.
  • Use spectroscopy, chromatography and spectrophotometry techniques to analyze inorganic and organic compounds to determine physical or chemical properties,structures, relationships, compositions or reactions.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments to guarantee all technology is in working order, and troubleshoot any problems or issues that arise with laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare compounds, test solutions and reagents for the correct individuals in the laboratory to perform the appropriate test.
  • Conduct monthly quality control tests to ensure that no equipment or compounds are contaminated by outside variables or environmental factors that can be controlled.
  • Analyze and compile data from research tests to diagnose malfunctions or determine equipment or process operating efficiency.
  • Educate additional personnel regarding the correct operating procedures to analyze physical properties or components of various materials.
  • Order chemicals and other laboratory supplies weekly and keep a close watch on expiration dates to ensure quality control in the lab.

Job Qualification

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or closely related field
  • Undergraduate-level classes in mathematics, organic chemistry, physical chemistry or physics
  • At least one year of experience working in a scientific lab

Preferred:

  • PHD or Master’s degree in chemistry or related field
  • Study focus on chemical detection systems and signal analysis.

IDEAL BACKGROUND:

We’re seeking an analytical chemistry, chemical engineering or chemistry for materials science MSc or post doc just leaving a stint at a top research institution or laboratory where he or she had extensive experience running Raman Spectra and using MATLAB to identify, deconvolute, and quantify new analytes.

This person needs to love science but not want to teach it. This person needs to love excitement and be willing to leave a stable environment for chaos and less money than they would otherwise get paid in order to have a chance to change the world and become independently wealthy.

This person will calibrate devices and collect data for implementations of next generation portable precision chembiolabs for new customers in diverse industries, starting with precision agriculture. This person will supervise interns, liaise with the Chief Technology Officer, data scientist, software and AI teams, and report to the CEO.

MISSION:

Work directly with the CEO to design, implement, and deliver overwhelming customer satisfaction by halving current testing costs, eliminating the delay associated with sending samples to labs, and creating previously impossible new in-line capabilities to deliver safer products than ever before.

OUTCOMES:

1. Ensure repeatable detection and quantification of up to 47 analytes simultaneously at the push of a button, resulting in between $125,000 - $675,000 in revenue within year one.

2. Provide data for marketing whitepapers summarizing the customer benefits derived, in dollar savings or new revenue, by implementing the solution.

3. Accompany the CEO on site visits to gather customer requirements and monitor progress.

4. Continuously prioritize, plan, and conduct implementations in new industries. Repeat.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

MATLAB for Fourier Transforms and other Signals Processing and Statistical Inference Techniques, Raman Spectroscopy, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science, Scientific Instrument Calibration Techniques, Statistics Especially Statistical Significance Testing, Lab Management, Staff Management, Device Troubleshooting and Repair, Microsoft Office Suite.
