Purpose of the Position

Reporting to Senior Vice President (Or other Aecon Designate), the Chief Estimator will be responsible for estimates for all bids / proposals for Urban Transportation Systems division across Canada and potentially global.

Key Responsibilities

Develops and implements a strategy to grow and enhance the functions capabilities in support of Aecon's strategic objectives
Responsible for all estimates created within the business unit and ensures that projects are correctly costed
Ensure all estimating teams are adequately staffed with the appropriate resources and skills
Accountable for the development and execution of the annual business plan within the assigned business unit
Responsible for the leadership, management, people development and training of their team
Implements an effective organizational structure and procedures
Assists, or establishes and executes short-term and long-term goals with the overall corporate objectives
Influences, motivates and informs employees about the company/business unit plans and progress
Participates in long-term strategic planning
Overall fiscal and human resource planning for assigned business units.
Prepare and submit construction project budget estimates
Establish and implement policies and procedures for quality control
Drives exceptional safety performance and culture within the business

Required Knowledge and Skills

2-3 years civil construction experience in a lead construction and/or estimating role
2-3 years’ experience with multiple contract types, including Design-Build and PPP projects
2-3 years’ experience estimating multiple disciples and work types including rail, transit and transportation systems
2-3 years’ experience as a Chief Estimator on rail projects
2-3 years’ experience of supervisory experience managing estimators on major projects
2-3 years’ experience working on complex JV projects
2-3 years’ experience reading and understanding construction drawings and documents
Ability to operate CADD and other computer software systems
Computer literate – working knowledge of Microsoft office products.
Broad knowledge of scheduling and general requirements of construction projects.
Knowledge of construction costs
Strong teaming and communication skills
Effective interpersonal skills
Team player who is organized and flexible
Excellent presentation skills
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, MS Word and Excel
Ability to supervise staff in various areas of responsibilities

37.5 hours/week

Annual salary will be $180,000 to $195,000 CAD

Working Conditions and Environment

Primary work location at Toronto corporate office with work and travel required throughout Canada.
Project, training and business-related travel required

Customer contact dealing with site meetings, project management, negotiating contracts, resolving disputes and general communication
Supplier contact dealing with coordinated strategy development, contract negotiation, project management, resolving disputes and general communication
Union contact relating to project or field-level issue resolution, strategy development and general communication
Frequent contact with the public (Job sites visits, Clients, Consultants, Sub trades)
Develop and maintain positive relations with clients, consultants and sub trades
