We are looking for a Business Advisor (BA) to support our Aquatic and Crop Resource Development Research Centre. The BA would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
Recognized as a business development leader passionate about research and development and with a keen understanding of the Canadian innovation system, and its importance for Canadians, you will direct business development / client relations professionals supporting the NRC’s Aquatic and Crop Resource Development Research Centre. The ACRD’s world-class research facilities combined with our expertise, focussed strategic R&D and customized technical and advisory services, make the Aquatic and Crop Resource Development Research Centre an important resource for Canadian organizations focused on the sustainable transformation of Canadian agricultural and marine bio-resources into into food, feed and ingredients, and other high value bioproducts. Our flexible business arrangements enable our partners to accelerate commercial developments and advance research that leads to breakthroughs and innovation.
The BA is a director level position driving business development at the research centre level. Together with the Director of Research and the Director of Operations, the BA is an integral member of the senior management team providing strategic leadership and support to the Director General of the research centre. The BA has a major responsibility in providing the Director General with in-depth business and client intelligence for the development of business and strategic plans.
The BA translates research centre and program strategies into attainable objectives and plans for client outreach and stakeholder engagement, balancing long term strategies with operational requirements. The incumbent is accountable for demonstrating impact to NRC’s stakeholders and for directing their team in securing external financial revenue at a level appropriate to the support the research centre and its programs.
The BA also provides leadership to a team of Client Relationship Leaders (business development staff) and is supported by various business research, contract support and Intellectual Property management personnel.
The Business Advisor reports to the Director of Business Management Services, National Programs and Business Services.
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Degree in Science, Business Administration or Engineering from a recognized university. Preference may be given to candidates with an advanced degree in one of these areas of study and/or additional training in a related field.

Recent and significant experience in identifying strategic directions, and providing strategic advice on business matters.
Recent and extensive business experience in developing partnerships and managing client relationships with private sector firms, academic institutions and government departments.
Experience in overseeing the negotiation of collaborative research and development and/or intellectual property agreements.
Experience in leading, and managing human, financial, and project resources that include the horizontal inclusion of activities from across an organization.
Business experience and contacts in the agri-food or marine bio-resource sector.
Experience in a RTO, government, or other public-service related organization is considered an asset.

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives.
From $116,100 to $139,300 per annum.
Regular travel will be required.
A pre-qualified list may be established for similar positions for a one year period.
