The Entrepreneur-In-Residence (EIR), Indigenous Entrepreneur Startup Program plans, will work primarily with Indigenous young entrepreneurs and act as a resource in the idea & business plan development phase. This role provides coaching, advisory services, and additional support around starting a business and building a business plan and cashflow. The EIR will also be the primary facilitator of Indigenous Entrepreneur Startup Program educational content. This role requires frequent cross-departmental coordination, specifically working closely with the Indigenous Entrepreneur Startup Program, Marketing & Communications, as well as liaising with other internal and external partners and contributors to achieve programmatic goals.
This is a permanent, full-time position that can be located anywhere in Canada. The incumbent will be working remotely (due to COVID) in the first instance and will then be located at one of our offices, working within our hybrid work model (from June 2022 onwards). This role may require frequent travel.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Coaching and Training (75%)
Coaching Entrepreneurs
- Provide coaching and feedback to potential entrepreneurs on key elements of business financial resiliency, a business plan including realistic cash flow projections, marketing initiatives, legal or insurance requirements, competitor analysis, logistics and operations, SWOT, as well as an understanding of personal credit.
- Support entrepreneurs via phone, on-line webinars/meetings, email and in person presentations
- Offer guidance to entrepreneurs with our online business resources and business plan writer
- Offer guidance on how to access and complete forms and documents necessary to start a business, such as licences, registration, and other regulations
Educating Entrepreneurs
- Deliver programming, webinars, bootcamps, workshops to entrepreneurs educating on essentials of a business plan; key elements of a business launching process (idea stage to business plan completion)
- Support the Programs Team in the creation of specialized programming
- Deliver customized workshops to Indigenous youth and young entrepreneurs across Canada both online and in person within community.
- Recommend and present Futurpreneur Canada resources and programs to entrepreneurs during workshops, presentations and seminars.
- From time to time, write blogs and articles on Indigenous entrepreneurship for Futurpreneur Canada’s website and social media use
Subject Matter Expert Responsibilities (25%)
- Contribute point of view during ongoing updates and revisions of current programs and services
- Be an integral part of the creation and on-going development of internal and external Indigenous entrepreneurial education and support programs
- At times, act as a subject matter expert as an educator or presenter for in-person external events or interview for media opportunities
- Work closely with the Programs department on different initiatives that arise, including regular meetings and check-ins
- Establishing relationships with the entrepreneurial resource ecosystem as it relates to Indigenous entrepreneurship
- Refer young Indigenous entrepreneurs to external resources that will progress their business success
WHAT YOU BRING
- Relevant experience may include education with a focus on business administration, economic development, entrepreneurship or equivalent hands-on career experience
- Experience working with entrepreneurs or business start-ups, business plans and cash flows
- Education or experience in business coaching and/or advising business start-ups
- Sense of purpose, entrepreneurial mentality and/or experience working with entrepreneurs and community organizationsStrong network and sense of purpose, entrepreneurial mentality and/or lived experience working with Indigenous Entrepreneurs and community organizations
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by young Indigenous entrepreneurs and Indigenous-led and Indigenous-focused community organizations
- Bilingual – fluency in both French and English (oral and written) is a considered an asset
- Proven customer service skills
- An interest and passion for youth entrepreneurship
- Ability to work effectively in a team
- Superior interpersonal skills with strong written and verbal communication skills
- A “can-do, roll up your sleeves” attitude
- Professional phone and email etiquette capabilities & confidentiality at all times
- Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with shifting priorities
- Experience in more than one industry is considered an asset
