Heavy Metal Equipment & Rentals is continues to hire for EXPERIENCED, career-focused Steam Operators for a safety-sensitive position in a safety sensitive environment on a rotating schedule based out of Fort McMurray (Wood Buffalo Region) that are motivated, committed and wants to grow with us.
NEW! HOURLY base RATES for career-focused Steam Operators: $36.95 - $40.71/hour. The regular scheduled rotation (168 hours) allows for 80 hours of regular + 88 hours of overtime.
+ 6.5% of gross earnings for hours worked
+ Commuter Supports ($1,000/month) for eligible individuals commuting to the Wood Buffalo Region**

Steam Truck Operators are responsible for a variety of tasks related to the safe operation and daily maintenance of a mobile high-pressure Steam Truck and equipment used to clean heavy equipment in the Oil Sands Region. A master of their craft, operators will provide mentorship and guidance to individuals on their apprenticeship journey. An excellent Operator will be:

The Job
The Steam Operator will be required to work 12-hour days, on a rotating schedule of 14 days on and 14 days off alternating sets between day and night shifts.
As a Steam Operator, you will be expected to:
- Safely operate the Steam equipment and mobile unit to clean heavy equipment in safety sensitive environments
- Participate in, promote and adhere to safety initiatives and protocols as mandated by the company, the clients and legislation
- Accurately complete all necessary paperwork including daily pre and post trip inspections, field level assessments for each job
- Be knowledgeable and compliant with legislated, company and client requirements and standards
- Correctly assess and give attention to space and obstacles present
- Manage routines to maximize efficiencies and meet schedules
- Perform daily housekeeping of truck, reporting deficiencies immediately
- Be proficient in verbal and written communication, with the English language
- Report to various work sites as directed, following instructions given
- Conducts all business in a professional and respectful manner
What We Need From YOU:
- A desire to make a difference and take pride in your work
- A minimum of 2 years of experience operating a mobile steam truck, including operating a manual transmission
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to read, understand and follow legislation, policies and procedures
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physical strength (ability to lift and manage 50 pounds)
- Be able to adapt to changes in environments quickly (weather, traffic, road conditions)
- Knowledge and understanding of basic truck maintenance
- Ability to access all mine sites (no site bans)
- Excellent Customer Service skills
As part of our Hiring Process, YOU will be asked to:
- Provide a minimum of a Class 3 Driver's License with Air Brakes
- Pass a driver’s evaluation
- Provide a criminal record check
- Complete drug and alcohol screening with a negative result
- Complete a fitness evaluation related specifically to your position
- Provide copies of current certifications (if you do not have any of the training required to be on site, we will provide it for you) including CSO/BSO, Elevated Work Platform, Fall Protection
- Comply with federal, provincial and Heavy Metal/client worksite requirements regarding COVID-19
