The Company
At The Little Campus, we know that little ones need a lot of TLC. That’s why our curriculum is loaded with tender loving care.
The Little Campus is high-end, premium, and state-of-the-art Early Learning Centre located in Etobicoke, part of Toronto’s west end. We strive to breathe new life into the industry — and one of our top priorities is how we treat our staff.
Our founder & president began her career in education, so it probably won’t come as a surprise that she has a huge amount of respect for those in the teaching profession and a true understanding of what this job entails. So you can be confident that you’ll be a valued — no, an invaluable — part of the TLC team. Not to mention, your health and happiness is really, really important to us. That’s why we pay more, offer an awesome benefits package, and give you the autonomy to run your own classroom (with the Whole Child in mind, of course — read more about our approach below).
Plus, we’re invested in making our campus a fun place to work… because as much as we love TGIF, we want you to LFTMT (look forward to Mondays too).
Mission & Values
As caregivers and educators, TLC’s mission is to provide a safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment for all children — one that fosters a child’s natural desire to explore, discover, create and become a lifelong learner.
At TLC, we are believers in the ‘Whole Child Approach,’ a teaching style that ensures each child is healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged each day. Our staff works together to provide a warm, nurturing atmosphere.
We know we’re repeating ourselves, but: Our experienced directors, highly trained educators, and classroom assistants are valued and respected members of the TLC family. We love them as much as they adore the children in their classrooms! (And yes, loving kids is a must-have for this role.)
The Role
Let us take you through a typical day at TLC: After you arrive on campus (a little early!), you’ll take a moment to catch up with your colleagues, discuss the day’s lesson plans, and make sure your classroom is ready to go. As per TLC policies, you’ll kindly agree to store your cell phone in your locker during working hours — we don’t think it’s too much to ask our educators to be fully present while in the presence of little ones!
Then it’s over to greet parents and children at drop-off time. But this isn’t good-bye. You’ll continue to communicate with mom or dad as the day unfolds — have you ever met a parent that doesn’t love getting a photo of their happy babe in the middle of a busy work day?
Class time will be a mix of free play, outdoor time, rest, age-appropriate learning, healthy foods, and community involvement. Set your social butterfly free while organizing local excursions and seeking out opportunities for children to participate in and contribute to community events… in a socially distanced manner, of course!
As the day goes on, you’ll be observing and documenting children’s involvement and interactions, and creating a development portfolio for each child in your classroom. Each portfolio will include sample arts & crafts, letter work, simple math, and any other relevant classwork that would bring a smile to a parent’s face — not to mention lifelong memories for the children to look back on with fondness.
With the help of other team members, you’ll be responsible for creating a secure environment for the little ones in your care — ensuring no child is left unattended, and that all children are kept clean and safe. This includes supervising washroom routines, encouraging proper hand hygiene, and administering medications when necessary.
And finally, be prepared to get your creative juices flowing while you develop engaging lesson plans that weave the Whole Child Approach into each activity. Love reading? Then you’ll love watching early readers thrive under TLC’s very own Early Literacy program. As you implement our developmentally based program into each day, it’s important that you’re open to adapting exercises and activities based on the children’s interests, gently encouraging each child’s curiosity and participation as you go.
And you’ll do it all with tender loving care.
