The Site Transportation Manager is accountable for all transportation related administrative functions for their reporting site. This position is responsible for managing the overall performance of inbound and outbound freight by maximizing the use of all fleet and carrier vehicles in order to provide an on-time, cost-effective service to the customer. The incumbent is also responsible for coordinating all activities related to the flow of freight. This position needs to work closely with the site General Manager, stores, and the national inbound team.
1.Supervises and leads a team of salaried and hourly personnel 24/7.
2.Monitors inbound and outbound trailer delivery schedules to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in and out of the trailer yard.
3.Investigates, tracks, and reports on OSD claims on a daily basis. Provides management with recommendations on the reduction of over/short/damaged freight occurrences.
4.Ensures that appointment bookings adhere to established procedures and hold carriers accountable to on time service.
5.Responds to client and carrier inquiries in a timely and courteous manner.
6.Accountable for store service and on time delivery across the region for the site they lead. This includes selecting the appropriate carrier to balance costs and service.
7.Efficient and cost effective routing to ensure successful load planning
8.Plans and schedules team members to ensure proper staffing for all shifts.
9.Accountable for their transportation budget for their site.
Canada Walmart Division
3-5 years’ experience in transportation
College certificate or diploma or Grade 12 education or equivalent, complemented by previous transportation administration training or experience.
Completion of relevant post-secondary courses from a Transportation & Distribution program desirable.
General knowledge of freight procedures and processes.
Customer service skills including effectively and efficiently responding to all internal and external customer inquiries; identifying stated and unstated customer needs; building relationships with team members, management and customers; resolving any conflicts or problems that might arise; etc.).
Issue management skills including time management (multi-tasking); information gathering, problem-solving skills (identifying and correcting errors).
Communication skills including written (forms, reports, memos); and verbal (internal with other departments and team leaders; external with customer, vendors, distribution centers and freight carriers)
Computer skills including general knowledge of data entry, word processing; and spreadsheets.
Interpersonal skills (working with employees at all levels, ability to work well with others in a team setting, etc.).
Ability to analyze financial data and computer data for daily reporting.
Previous supervisory experience including the supervision of multidisciplinary employee
