Voice of English-speaking Québec is presently seeking candidates for a full-time Administrative Assistant – 35 hours per week – 1-year maternity leave contract.

As an active, non-profit organization that currently has over 3200 members, VEQ has played a vital role in the preservation and development of community life for the English-speaking community for over three decades. Currently, VEQ has active partnerships with over 60 community organizations, institutions, and groups in the area.

Furthermore, VEQ helps individuals participate in community life in the Quebec City region, in both French and English. We welcome newcomers, sponsor community celebrations, research needs, inform citizens, and provide a framework for effective action on behalf of English-speaking people and institutions.

Job Description

Duties to include:
Provide administrative support to the organization;
Organization of board meetings and communication with Board of Directors;
Information referral via phone, email and in person;
Maintaining membership database;
Accounting duties: payroll, financial reports, receivables, payables, ordering etc;
Website and job bank updating;
Assist with event organization and preparation;
Ensure the day-to-day operations of the office;
All other tasks determined by the Executive Director.


A minimum of 2 years’ experience in an administrative role;
Excellent written and spoken English, ability to communicate well in French;
Strong administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills;
Excellent computer skills (MS Office);
Team Player, detail-oriented, proactive and autonomous;
The following would be considered assets: good accounting skills, event planning experience, knowledge of Quebec City’s English-speaking community.

Terms of Employment
Salary scale between $17.50 and $21/hr depending on qualifications and experience. Access to benefits package following a 3-month probation period.

Schedule: 35 hours/week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Start date: Early January
