1 temporary full-time position for 4 or 8 months intended specifically for students currently enrolled in a geographic information system or related co-op or equivalent post-secondary work experience diploma or degree program, commencing in May 2020

Contribute to public safety! Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) is now recruiting for a Geographic Information System (GIS) Work Experience Student. This role is responsible for providing geographical information system services to aid with Emergency Services’ response. Under the leadership of the Senior Geomatic Services Coordinator, you will provide accurate and detailed mapping and spatially referenced information for public use and civic administration.

Key responsibilities of this role include:
Coordinate Geographic Information Systems (GIS); identify data gathering, integrity analysis and maintenance requirements
Liaison with Fire Rescue Services, COE departments and external contacts
Create and maintain visually appealing cartographic maps to meet both public and Departmental needs
Provide support for 9-1-1 Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) data maintenance and assistance; assist with the creation and maintenance of various mapping products the EFRS implements for responding to emergencies
Assist in the creation of maploads and other related duties as needed
Provide assistance on tasks requested by Senior Geomatic Services Coordinator

Qualifications :
Currently enrolled in a geographic information system or related co-op or equivalent post-secondary work experience diploma or degree program
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft and Google applications
General knowledge of the City of Edmonton, Communities and Neighborhoods
Demonstrated interpersonal, customer service, communication (written and verbal), and problem-solving skills
Ability to work with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment
Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance
Basic experience with Bentley MicroStation V8, V8i or AutoCAD would be considered an asset
Basic experience with GeoMedia or ArcGIS applications would be considered an asset

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday

Salary: $18.998 - $20.900 (Hourly)
