The mission of the Corporate Audit Department is to provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve the organization’s operations. It helps the organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.
The successful candidate will be fairly new to the role of Director or have been at the Senior Manager level for a number of years and is ready to take the next step in their career. This role is available due to succession planning and will be closely mentored by the current incumbent until their retirement within the next 1-2 years. The right candidate will be open and eager to learn during this transition time.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
The Director, in the discharge of his/her duties, reports to the Chief Auditor. The Corporate Audit Department is accountable to the Board of Directors through the Audit and Finance Committee and the CFO.
The Director has responsibility for:
Contributes to the development of a flexible, risk-based audit plan that addresses all aspects of the company’s financial, operational, IT and compliance environments, supports the organization’s strategies/plans/priorities and incorporates risks deriving from the company’s regional, cultural and governmental differences;
executing the audit plan, as approved, including any special tasks or projects requested by Management and/or the Audit and Finance Committee;
actively supporting and contributing to the company’s continuous improvement activities
preparing the Department’s reports for the Audit & Finance Committee and/or Board of Directors, executive leadership and the external auditor
developing a professional audit staff with sufficient knowledge, skills, experience, and professional certifications to meet the requirement of the Charter; and enhancing staff skills through a combination of coaching/mentoring and professional development and training courses;
contributing to the maintenance of the audit risk universe using an appropriate methodology;
managing the Corporate Audit Department’s daily activities in accordance with best practices and standards of the internal audit profession, with high standards and integrity.
ensuring audits are performed in accordance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing. The Corporate Audit function will fully conform to the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) of the Institute of Internal Auditors (the “IIA”);
assisting in ensuring that the Internal Audit Charter is relevant and reflects the standards of the IIA, suggesting changes as appropriate;
participating in a committee that coordinates, investigates and reports on the administration of the employee Code of Business Conduct, including suspected acts of criminal and fraudulent activity;
considering the scope of work of the external auditors and regulators, as appropriate, for the purpose of providing optimal audit coverage to the organization; and
providing consulting services to management that add value and promote the best interests of the organization.
All managers in ATS are responsible for creating a positive safety culture and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. It is the responsibility of each manager to ensure that employees receive regular training regarding health, safety and environmental matters. Each manager is also accountable to ensure that HSE matters are addressed in a timely manner and that compliance with both legislative and corporate requirements are maintained.
University Degree specializing in business administration, accounting, finance or computer sciences
A professional accounting designation (CPA, ACCA) required. Other designations (CIA, CFE, CISA) are desirable.
At least eight (8) years internal or external audit experience, leading teams and running complex audits and consulting assignments
At least five (5) years experience in senior leadership roles
Skills & Competencies
Advanced knowledge of Internal Audit foundations, able to build and apply expertise in internal audit methodologies, data analytics, control theory and fraud to effectively and efficiently perform audits
Ability to pursue and assimilate knowledge of business drivers, key processes and system, risks and controls and accounting policies, to ensure the audit plan supports the business needs and attainment of goals
Strong technical knowledge of:
general accounting standards/principles, public company regulations/requirements (e.g. Sarbanes-Oxley and/or Bill 198)
IIA standards and best practices
control frameworks to assess financial, operational, IT and compliance controls, including design and operating effectiveness
knowledge of IT systems development lifecycles, applications, infrastructure, configuration, security access
Able to work effectively with the C-suite
Strong communication skills, verbal and written, able to communicate sensitive issues in a clear, concise, persuasive manner
Excellent influencing, persuasion, collaboration and negotiation skills
Flexible, adaptable, able to undertake new priorities and adapt the audit approach accordingly
Ability to build solid formal and informal relationships with key influencers and decision-makers throughout the organization
Able to foster career growth and development in the team by pursuing challenging engagements and projects, setting high standards, supporting an open environment
Ability to plan, organize, direct and control projects, applying a wide spectrum of analytical tools, methodologies and project management techniques in order to develop solutions in the absence of guidelines or precedents
