Your Opportunity:
In collaboration with an inter-disciplinary team, the Registered Respiratory Therapist I is a life-supporting and life-enhancing health-care professional dedicated to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education of infants, children and youth with cardiopulmonary conditions. You will be involved in the diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients with respiratory diseases, respiratory failure and associated medical and/or surgical problems. Working in a fast paced environment, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and following up on respiratory care plans, performing respiratory care procedures and training students. Your quality of work must meet departmental and organizational expectations. You must demonstrate competency in all phases of the job, adaptability to new procedures and information, be current in respiratory therapy advances and changes in department practices, policies and procedures. Demonstrated clarity in your communication, organization and consistency of ideas, both verbally and written, including clinical documentation, is required. You must be highly motivated, confident, and enthusiastic individual with a positive attitude whose work aligns with AHS Values. You act quickly and decisively using critical thinking and problem-solving skills. You utilize strong judgment by analyzing facts, considering the impact, and arriving at a sound conclusion, seeking counsel when appropriate. This position is with the Stollery Children’s Hospital and is currently based out of the Royal Alexandra Hospital site.

Description:
As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Required Qualifications:
Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:
Graduate from a recognized School of Respiratory Therapy is required. The incumbent must be eligible to write or have passed the National Respiratory Certification Exam as administered by the Canadian Board for Respiratory Care (CBRC). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) required.

Preferred Qualifications:
2-3 years recent critical care experience in a tertiary care teaching hospital with neonatal and pediatric experience. Currently orientated to the Stollery Children’s Hospital. CSRT membership, NRP, peds/neo transport experience. Member of the CISM team and official member of the Stollery Quality Council. Experience as a charge therapist, preceptoring students, participating on committees, and developing quality initiatives and implementing change in practice.
