This position is primarily located at the EC Purdy Building, Nova Scotia Hospital; although travel to other treatment sites may be required.
The East Coast Forensic Hospital (ECFH) offers services to individuals in Nova Scotia who require specialized forensic assessment and/or treatment. The Forensic Sexual Behaviour Program is currently located at The EC Purdy Building site where the coordination of sexual offender assessment and treatment services for the province is based. Treatment is currently being offered in four areas across the province whereas assessment is primarily centralized to The Nova Scotia Hospital site.
The Clinical Psychologist will work under the direction of the co-ordinating Psychologist to ensure the effective provision of sexual offender assessment and treatment services. Duties could include program development activities, research, risk assessment, and/or the facilitation of specialized group treatment as well as involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings. While court testimony is infrequent, it is a potential aspect of any work conducted at the FSBP. Independence will be both expected and encouraged.
- Master’s degree (MA/MSc) from a recognized, accredited program in Clinical Psychology or Forensic Psychology
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners (NSBEP) in good standing
- Minimum of two years related clinical experience
- Minimum of two years research experience including use of SPSS
- Risk assessment training is an asset
- Knowledge and experience with psychometric tests addressing personality and deception is preferred
- Demonstrated skills in DSM diagnosis is an asset
- Demonstrated ability to provide initial psychological interviews and assessments is required
- Experience in a forensic setting, particularly with sexual offenders is preferred
- Requires independent professional judgement, initiative, self-reliance and adaptability in developing, organizing, supervising and delivering high quality psychological services and programs
- Demonstrated ability for effective self-care and stress management required
- Competencies in other languages is an asset, French or Mi’kmaq preferred
