Reporting to the Unit Manager of the Stollery Operating Room, the anesthesia technician is a clinical practitioner who provides direct patient care in the Operating Room. The anesthesia technician is also responsible for the repair and routine preventative maintenance of anesthesia related equipment as well as coordinating service for anesthesia equipment in collaboration with the Clinical Engineering Department. Peripheral venous and arterial access – initiate peripheral lines (venous and arterial) and perform radial artery punctures as requested. Setup and assist with invasive cardiac monitoring. Assist with establishing and maintaining airway support (endotracheal tube / laryngeal mask airway, OPA, NPA, provide post-anesthetic respiratory care in PACU and assist with care of ventilated patients in PACU. Assist anesthesiologists and nurses in transport/transfer of critically ill patients. Perform respiratory assessments as needed. Participate in studies and research related to field of expertise. Provide education to nursing staff and other allied health team members. Assist with the development of standards, policies and procedures as needed. Check and resupply anesthesia equipment and supply items (unscheduled checks and daily equipment checks). Participate in preventive maintenance. Coordinate service contracts for anesthesia machines. Coordinate and facilitate the cleaning of anesthesia equipment including anesthesia circuits. Set up, calibrate, and operate anesthesia and monitoring equipment.
As an Anaesthesia Technician II, you will assess and prioritize daily workload and equipment requirements. You will set up and calibrate all physiological monitors required for daily cases including Advanced Life Support equipment. You will assist with procedures and calibrate, troubleshoot and perform repairs on anaesthetic equipment.

Additional Required Qualifications:
Rescuer CPR (BLS); PALS and NALS are assets. Proficiency using MS Office is an asset. Experience in anesthesia assistance in the operating room and PACU – 2 to 3 years of recent relevant experience in pediatric surgery is preferred.
