ABOUT FRESH CITY

Fresh City, founded in 2011 by Ran Goel, is a city farm and retailer of farm-fresh, organic produce and prepared food. Each day we make locally and organically sourced meal kits and chef-inspired meals, salads, snacks and breakfasts from scratch. In late 2018 we acquired Mabel’s Bakery, a popular bakery in Toronto, producing artisan breads and pastries. Shortly after, in early 2019, we acquired The Healthy Butcher, a pioneer in organic and 100% grass-fed beef. We farm in Downsview Park as well as at Baka on Highway 427, and we have eight retail locations between our three brands. Fresh City delivers straight to our customers’ doors or to pick-up locations throughout the Greater Toronto Area. By bringing makers and eaters together, we are changing how people think about food.

ROLE SUMMARY

As a Prep Cook, you are responsible for ensuring that the quality and consistency of prepared food products within the Mabel's, Healthy Butcher and Fresh City brands are maintained while working with the rest of the Prepared Foods Team, helping to ensure that production targets are met.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Following existing recipes and processes to make salads, dips, fillings, sauces and assemble entrées

Cooking meat and vegetable proteins to be sold as is or used in sandwiches, salads and entrées

Canning and preserving jams, pickles, soups and sauces

Prepping vegetables and starches as mis en place for daily production needs

Portioning and labelling finished goods for sale

Labelling and storing goods raw goods, mis en place, sauces, etc. correctly, ensuring proper date rotation

Assistance with ingredient, packaging and label inventories

Other duties as required including but not limited to;

Assisting with other production areas as needed, including pastry, packing, and sandwiches

Handling machinery including but not limited to ovens, blenders and food processing equipment

Following all food handling protocols as set by the kitchen and the board of health.

Cleaning and sanitizing all work surfaces

Cleaning and maintaining all shared equipment

Other Duties as Required

WHAT YOU’RE BRINGING TO THE TABLE:
Works well in a team setting (agreeable, courteous and positive).

Reliable (always shows up on time)

Organized and able to work quickly

Pay close attention to detail and are able to work neatly

Can work independently, but not afraid to ask for help.

One year of commercial kitchen experience

Interest/knowledge in organics/farming/local food an asset

You LOVE food and have a PASSION for anything delicious

OTHER DETAILS:
Reporting to Kitchen Leads and Director, Kitchen Operations

Full time (37.5 hours per week), including weekends (one weekend day is a must). As part of our efforts to Increase the safety of our staff during the Covid Pandemic, we are currently working four, ten hour shifts per week

Hourly Wage: $15 per hour plus $2 premium pay during Covid Pandemic
