Nature of Position

The Family Counsellor is responsible for the overall development and delivery of the Family & Friend Caregivers Support Program. The position manages three main program components: individual outreach and supports, group programs and community engagement. The role will oversee the intake of new caregiver participants; the management of program services; the recruitment, training and support of program volunteers; network with the public, local organizations and health care practitioners for program promotion and referrals; and undertake outreach and education efforts to profile caregiver issues and needs. As well, this role will actively participate in the evaluation, reporting and Community of Practice activities of the provincial funders and partners, as a site of collaborative learning and quality assurance. Key partnerships for this new program in community include Family Caregivers of British Columbia (FCBC), United Way, and Interior Health.


An undergraduate degree in social services, social work, gerontology, health care or another related discipline (Master’s degree is an asset). Three or more years of experience supporting individuals and families in the fields of social, health and/or seniors’ services or a combination of related training and experience.


The Family Counsellor, Caregivers Support Program, will be responsible for the following:

  • Individual supports to caregivers
  • Coordination of support groups for caregivers
  • Engagement with health care and social service systems
  • Community engagement
  • Volunteer/peer coordination
  • Program development

Office is located in Penticton, but travel within the region may be necessary.
