Position summary:
KPMG’s Research and Development Practice is made up of multidisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, accountants and tax specialists. These teams help our clients obtain federal and provincial tax credits to promote scientific research and experimental development (SR&ED) investments (to find out more about the program, visit

The firm is looking for a scientific advisor or a manager with information technology (IT) knowledge to join its SR&ED practice.

Various businesses conduct SR&ED activities to advance their technology in order to develop or improve products or processes. To qualify for SR&ED tax credits, these activities must meet certain eligibility criteria. The successful candidate will assist our clients in identifying eligible SR&ED activities and describing these activities in a technical report. The candidate will benefit from exposure to science and technology leaders and state-of-the-art innovations at companies in several industries, and from continuous learning through conferences and networking.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Establishing and maintaining an effective knowledge base of specific technological or scientific sectors;
Conducting interviews to identify technological advancements and uncertainties, as well as SR&ED project work;
Describing projects in a report that is consistent with SR&ED guidelines;
Identifying project expenditures;
Assisting clients with CRA audits;
Monitoring the entire process from claim until payment.

What you bring to the role:
University degree in information technology or equivalent;
A minimum of one year of technical writing experience involving SR&ED files, specifically in the IT sector;
Professional programming, analysis and software architecture experience, and a good grasp of software industry technology (concepts, languages and development platform);
Technical writing experience and knowledge of the Canada Revenue Agency’s SR&ED program, specifically in the IT sector;
Excellent knowledge of terminology and technology used by the software industry;
Communication skills (French and English, both spoken and written);
Active listener with the ability to conduct technical interviews to gather detailed project descriptions;
Good interpersonal skills, demonstrating an ability to communicate with stakeholders and foster relationships;
Ability to grasp abstract or complex technical concepts and explain them in more general terms;
Analytical and synthesis skills, intellectual curiosity, astuteness;
Diligence, attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality work for clients;
Results and client-service oriented;
Availability for client visits.
