This is semi-skilled horticultural work in the planting of eco-sculptures. An incumbent of this class performs a variety of horticultural tasks, provides information and instruction to the public, makes presentations and may direct the work of a small crew of labourers. The Eco-Sculpture Assistant performs a variety of manual horticultural tasks in all kinds of weather conditions including plant selection, fertilizing, watering, pruning and planting of eco-sculptures; operating a one-ton truck and trailer unit used to transport eco-sculptures, materials, equipment, tools and crew; providing information and instruction to the public on construction, planting and maintenance of eco-sculptures; preparing and making presentations to various community groups; and may direct and check the work of a small group of labourers; and preparing and maintaining related planting plans, reports, records and statistics. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include up to high school graduation supplemented by courses related to the work plus sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and equipment used in horticulture operations. Sound knowledge of the names and varieties of plants used for eco-sculptures. Ability to carry out oral and written instructions; to complete and maintain a variety of planting plans, reports and records related to the work; to provide information and instruction to the public and to make presentations. Skill in the handling and maintenance of plant stock and in the use and care of horticultural equipment and tools. Knowledge and experience in floral design, as well as in working with community groups, are assets. Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia is required.

This is a temporary full time opportunity to June 30, 2020.
