As a mental health professional, the Mental Health Therapist (MHT) works as a member of an interdisciplinary team, providing community based, recovery oriented assessment, treatment, follow-up and/or case management to adults and youth experiencing severe and persistent mental illness or those with concurrent disorders. The Mental Health Therapist must be able to assess needs, plan and provide interventions and evaluate outcomes within their prescribed scope of practice. Effective collaboration with families, other providers and a range of stakeholders is required. Formal consultation skills and abilities are required in liaison work with multiple agencies. Critical thinking skills, and knowledge of mental illnesses and evidence based/ informed treatment (including risk assessment and crisis management), working knowledge of the identification and management of concurrent disorders and medical co-morbidities.
As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to perform the restricted activity of psychosocial intervention utilizing a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.
