As Manager, Academic Programs, you will work closely with the Vice-Chair Education, Program Directors and Director, Business & Administration to develop and implement strategic priorities and program-specific objectives for the education portfolio. Drawing upon your strong analytical skills and your proven ability to successfully advance key priorities in a complex, fast-paced environment, you will provide strategic operational guidance to our 20 Residency Programs, Fellowship Programs and Undergraduate Medical Programs. As both a leader and mentor, you will oversee the design, management and professional development of a number of high caliber administrative staff.
Your responsibilities will include:
Championing and supporting a cohesive, collaborative education portfolio by ensuring both undergraduate and post-graduate education meet Departments standards
Providing strategic operational guidance to the Vice-Chair, Education, Program Directors and Divisional Directors on administrative best practices, ensuring high-quality administrative support is consistently provided
Developing and maintaining a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Department of Medicine and its Undergraduate Medical Education programs, courses, its Postgraduate/Residency and Fellowship programs and related administrative practices and requirements
Evaluating and improving operational efficiency and effectiveness of administrative processes, supported by quantitative analyses, technology and other tools as appropriate
Defines roles and responsibilities of staff and assigns tasks to staff based on understanding of needs and availability of resources
Liaising with course directors and graduate specialty program directors to effectively allocate resources for all teaching, ensuring that appropriate supports are provided
Overseeing program related processes and policies, such as resident transfers, program and resident evaluations, and resident remediation
Developing budgets for approval and preparing short and long-term financial plans and priorities for programs
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent acceptable combination of education and experience
Minimum of five years of senior administrative experience, including significant management experience, preferably in a university, health sciences or similar complex environment
Experience with medical residency program administration or related education program management experience in an academic environment
Experience managing projects and leading successful change, including developing strategies, implementing initiatives and establishing best practices
Experience managing, leading and mentoring staff, preferably in a unionized environment
A well-developed financial acumen, including financial analysis and budgeting
Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite, learning management systems, content management systems and survey tools
Highly developed verbal and written communication and presentation skills
Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
Superior planning, organizational, and project management skills with a focus on executing and completing tasks under pressure and within deadlines
Strong team-building skills and a collaborative and consultative leadership style; excellent analytical skills and creative problem-solving ability
Demonstrated ability to seek innovative and creative solutions with a personal commitment to excellence
Responsive and high degree of flexibility
Knowledge of trends in medical education preferred
Experience working with Quercus and/or POWER registration and evaluation system
