As a data science intern, you will help develop and use the various means, tools and methods to collect, consolidate, model and visualize company data. This is done to establish governance, to help with decision making and to have an overview of the activity in hand.

Your role will involve analyzing and modelling problems and situations in your field of expertise so as to extract insights from data. You will assist the more experienced professionals in your unit on various projects. You will participate in developing opinions and appropriate implementation plans according to the results of your analyses.

You will conduct research. You will carry out preliminary analyses. You will develop initial drafts of tools. You will capitalize on your comprehensive knowledge of the business and your ability to manage data. You will be called upon to interact with stakeholders working in complementary fields.

Qualifications

This internship must be recognized by your school to earn a diploma of college studies, a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree in an appropriate discipline: mathematics, statistics, engineering or other equivalent training
Experience in extracting and manipulating large datasets
Professional or academic experience in the application of machine learning and deep learning algorithms with supervised and unsupervised data (an asset)

Specific knowledge

Proficiency in one or more of the main analytical programming languages (Python, R, SAS, SQL, etc.)
Knowledge of different types of data (structured and unstructured) and the appropriate modelling method
Proficiency in the use of advanced data science techniques (statistical modelling, machine learning or data visualization)
Knowledge of and ability to communicate complex algorithms and to justify the logical approach used to achieve the desired outcomes
Knowledge of mega data technology (Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Cassandra, Spark, etc.) and advanced analytics (Azure Machine Learning, Google Cloud Machine Learning, SAS Grid, Splunk, etc.) (an asset)
